A BIOS update is not something to be taken lightly. It should only be done if it addresses a specific problem you are having. It should not be done just because a newer version is available. A BIOS update can fail even if you do everything right. The BIOS chip can at best be updated only a small number of times, sometimes it fails the first time.
The problem with doing a BIOS update is that you need a functioning BIOS before you can do it. After a failure that is usually not the case.
