Acer Aspire 5740 won't start up

My Acer Aspire 5740 laptop has recently come up with the message 'Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause' when i turn it on. It gives me the option to launch setup repair, but when i do it eventually ends up on a blue screen similar to the startup screen only with no login feature or anything to click, and will just stay on this screen as long as i leave it. If i try to start Windows normally it just returns to this windows recovery page eventually. I have tried opening the f8 menu when starting the laptop, and have tried to start the computer in safe mode, and almost all other modes on this menu, but they all just lead back to the original message and windows recovery screen. Any help would be massively appreaciated, and i don't have any original windows disks at the moment so if there was a way to get round this without reinstalling windows via a disk i would reallyt appreciate it!

Thanks for the reply, and no i have no discs, i didn't make a back up disc and i've moved house since i bought the laptop and think i must have lost the windows 7 disc in the move if i got one when i bought the laptop. The screen also says 'If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start Windows Normally.' I have tried both of these, and the launch startup repair just ends up with a blue screen like the login screen coming up. If i try to start windows normally it just eventually returns to this screen.

Jesus... no repair and install stuff at all???? Is it win7 32 or 64 bits? Language?

No i have no discs, It's windows 7 but i don't know if it's 32 or 64 bit, i'm not really good with computers and never thought to check. if i go onto the f2 menu when turning it on i can get some information though, i don't know if it will help but some of the things on the list are
CPU Tpye: Intel (R) Core(TM) i2 CPU M 330 @ 2.13GHz
CPU Speed 2130 MHz
I won't write them all down but if any of the following would be helpful i can get them from this page, IDEO Model name, IDEO Serial Number, ATAPI Model Name, System BIOS Version, VGA BIOS Version, KBC Version, Serial Number, UUID. I hope this can help a bit

did you do something special that it doesn't boot? Added some hardware or so

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1-U ISO
English x64: X17-58997.iso

I bet it is the 64bits version. Very common I have acer 5742G also 64 bits
Download it and burn it. Boot from it on sick laptop. Now you can do a "startup repair"

OK thanks a lot for your help, and if i have a feeling it is 64bit i just wasn't sure. So i just burn this onto a DVD or would a hard drive work as well. I'll try it out in the next day or two and let you know the outcome. Thanks again for your help.

You're working on win7 now as well? Then download the ISO file rightclick on it, "open with" then "windows burning" or something like that

Ok I have the iso file burnt onto a DVD but i'm still struggling to get it working. I have gone to the boot menu after pressing f2 and moved the USB CD/DVD option to 1 in the priority. I then exit and try to launch startup repair but I still get no results. I did download and burn the file on a mac but nothing on the file was changed so I assume that doesn't matter when trying to open it on a pc. I do also have the file on an external hard drive so I don't know if I might be able to try and open it from there?

Does it boot from DVD? Please be more precise what happens. If it doesn't boot at all, take a look at the contents of DVD. Only one file (the ISO) on DVD? That's not correct!! Select "burn image" or something like that in burning program
