Acer eRecovery slow

I'm running Acer eRecovery v7.7.8 with recovery disks. Having run smoothly, it has been on 98% for about half an hour. Is there something wrong or is it at some naturally slow part of the recovery process?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Recovery from discs is always slower than using the on board recovery partition, but it shouldn't take more than two or three hours from start to finish when using discs.

Give it a bit longer as it can take some time to configure the files.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately, I got an error message a few minutes ago and it spat out disk 3 of 4. I didn't make a note of the error message, alas. I've started again. If it spits out the disk a second time, I'll note the error message.

OK - it is now on a different Restore Process screen, giving me an "Elapsed time", a running percentage for "Restoring system" and a running percentage for "Updating system."
I'm guessing the best thing to do is to go to bed and hope it has finished by breakfast.

It's possible there's a problem with your recovery discs.

If need be, you can buy an e-Recovery disc from Acer.

If you don't want all the Acer bloatware, you might want to consider a clean install, as this tutorial explains.

It would depend on the ACER PC. I have carried out a factory restore on an Aspire 1800 from the hidden partition quite some time ago and I recall it taking ~45min from DVDs I would expect longer. If you have a hidden recovery partition on the HDD e-recovery is faster and more reliable.

Good to hear. In the future always boot the Recovery Partition for factory Recovery and save the disks to use as backup. Acer Support: Frequently Asked Questions list for Recovery media and Restoring a system to factory load

That's the only problem with using recovery disks. A few scratches could render the whole recovery useless. :-(
Does Acer let you burn one set of disks? Or are you limited to only creating one set?

You don't necessarily have to use discs.

I used a USB flash drive to create the recovery software for a Dell I bought recently.

A bit more expensive, granted, but a lot less likely to get damaged in my view.

I've done that with a few of mine. My windows sp1 is on a flash drive along with a few others. If I do make disks I tend to make 2 copies of each just in case.

It's good that you sorted out the problem. DVDs can be risky.

As I said earlier it is best to use recovery partition on the HDD. This partition is easily imaged with free Macrium Reflect and reimaged if damaged. I reimaged my ACER recovery partition to a new replacement HDD and could do a factory recovery without any problem.
