I restored my Gateway NV51 using my brother's Acer Aspire 5251's recovery disks, and it seems to be working fine. I was looking around the Internet and found out that it really shouldn't have worked, since they're different brands, and now my computer has a bunch of Acer software on it (Acer desktop backgrounds, Acer Games, Acer Updater, etc.). Will having my computer half think it's one type and half think it's another be a problem? The BIOS knows it's a Gateway, but everything inside Windows says Acer. I lost one of my recovery disks, and I don't really want to order new ones if I don't have to. Thanks!

Doesn't Acer own the Gateway brand?

That has probably got something to do with it.

If it is working fine - just leave it as it is.

Glad you're all straightened out! However, it's a credit to the author of the tutorial (gregrocker) and the other contributors...
