It seems 1172 URLs are blacklisted by the Australian Government already, Whirlpool`s ISP was threatened with $11,000 a day in fines yesterday after a user on Whirlpool`s forum posted one of the links :sarc:

ACMA takes aim at Whirlpool, supplier | Australian IT

Link removed

Hmm, the blacklist contains a single entry for "http://"...their systems can use that entry to hook every address starting with "http://"

This looks like the beginning of the end for the internet as we know it. :(

Damn. A whole list of porn/pedo/poker-sites... Oh well, it's kinda bad that they block regular adult sites (totally legal, I mean). For the pedo stuff, it's understandable.

For the fines, it's a bit exagerated seriously.

EDIT

Would it be better to take out the second link??

The internet is for everybody and for freedom of speech.

People "don't have to look at what they consider to be bad sites".

Internet is made for the people by the people. :)

Soon the internet will be subscription based and you will only be able to access sites within your subscription from your ISP and all the little guys out there will cease to exist, there will be no more torrent sites and no more freedom of speech and the Internet will become policed just as our lives are.

They probably searched the Wikipedia entry for the main character of this video, this one was a home movie production yet they blocked it :sarc:

I don't think 1172 sites is many at all....?

My isp for example has a thing called safeguard which is ON by default unless you can prove with a credit card or similar that your over 18, else they block thousands of sites, not only porn related but many forum/chat sites also...

I can still access that one but I have to login first and confirm my age.

Its not really graphic video :sarc:

Google manages their search filter similar to the governments internet filter

Hmm, the blacklist contains a single entry for "http://"...their systems can use that entry to hook every address starting with "http://"

Google 'error' lists all websites as harmful - web - Technology - smh.com.au

"Unfortunately (and here's the human error), the URL of '/' was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and '/' expands to all URLs."
It seems they picked up from Google`s search filtering

maybe our part of the world isn't too bad after all or they haven't yet learned how to shut down sites.

However Paedos etc thats a TOTALLY different matter.

--Prison is too good for them -- that Austrian guy who locked his daughter up for 18 or so years gets an individual Cell with facilities which some of us would consider good for a DECENT business class hotel costing maybe up to 100 USD a night -- and he gets it for free.

I'd chain him to the walls and let him eat his dinner off the floor. He would be allowed out for an hour a day into the town square where the public could chuck things at him like they did in the old days when the criminals were displayed in "The Public Stocks". Perhaps also he should be locked up in the place where he locked his daughter up instead of his "Hotel Suite".

Banning sites isn't the answer anyway -- one can always go via "Proxies" etc etc.

The government (of most countries) just waste time on spending millions (or if you include the Bank rescue schemes - Trillions) of Dollars / EUR / GBB/ KRO etc etc. on totally pointless exercises which they have no more possibilities of controlling than they do of the tides or "The Man in the Moon".

Look at the totally pointless Swedish court case recently -- and that well known "Nautical Site" is still broadcasting loud and clear.

An army of worldwide hackers / computer enthousiasts can always be a zillion steps against the plodding burocracy of oganisations like the FBI (Federal Bureau of Incompetants) and their Scumbag lawyers.

Cheers

I thought Xylophone and the twitty little God botherer were going to block the legislation in the Senate.
They won't say who they have on the list, giving wrongly added people no opportunity to appeal. Who would have thought that could ever happen in Australia.
Whats to stop them adding sites to appease the Independent senators to get other legislation passed, or to please ****holes like Murdoch so that he will say nice things about them. The possibilities are endless . Grrrrrrrr
I have voted for them all my life, but never again. The other mob just want the internet improved for farmers, so they wont get my vote either.
Our third world internet access is a sad joke compared to other developed countries and now they want to take away our basic freedoms.
What next, teams of people roaming the suburbs and kicking doors in to see what people have stored on their computers?
Zieg Heil !
