Hi,

We only provide help genuine Windows installations - we won't advise you on aspects of updating a non-genuine system. You should ensure that your system is genuine to continue receiving support here.

If in doubt, follow these steps:

1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. Run the tool, and then click 'Copy' - ignore any errors if they appear

3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the validation tool here in your next reply

You are more likely to have problems with a non-activated system than with an activated one, since only security updates are available when the system is non-genuine, and there are other restrictions on what a non-genuine system can do (as well as having a nag-screen all the time, and a black background)

That statement is wrong on so many counts I won't bother attempting to address it other than to say
1) You MUST activate Windows 7 if you expect to use it - you're breaking the terms of the contract that you agreed to when you installed it, and can be prosecuted accordingly, otherwise.
2) Updating Windows is essential, in order to keep your system running slmoothly, and reduce the likelihood of getting infected by viruses or malware
