Activating by phone, asked to put MB receipt on my Desktop!

I dialed what appears to be a genuine MS Activation number 0800 0188354 (carefully) on my cell phone and got through to a real person in due course. The precedings seemed legit. She opened a "ticket number" took my cell phone number and my e-mail address, and when I said I needed to activate 7 Pro on a new motherboard and hard drive she wanted me to take a photo of the MB receipt and place it n my Desktop whilst she waited. I asked if she'd be able to view things on my Desktop from what sounded like an Asian call centre and she said yes... I decided to call back later... This has to be a scam, surely, or have I become paranoid and need to put the Bacofoil away? Ta!


I did Google phone activation of Windows and photo of receipt and drew a near blank. I have the receipt but how could MS view it just placed on my Desktop as a photo?

They can't unless you give them control of your pc.
I have not heard of this drama before.

Very odd. It is free number so you could call again and maybe get somebody more helpful.

Where did you get that phone number? You can't activate Windows online?

Okay, number looks legit. Strange they would have you post an image on your desktop like that. That doesn't make sense at all.
