So I deleted windows 7 off of an old machine and am trying to install it on a new machine. I keep getting error , which I assume is because it still thinks its 'in use' on the old machine.

I am trying to get to phone setup to resolve this but cannot make phone activation appear.

I've tried everything in this thread:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18715-activate-windows-7-phone.html

I've removed the serial number and tried bringing up slui with no internet but it will not let me activate by phone. Even with no internet, it still gives mt the same error number (how is it even contacting the activation servers with no internet?).

Typing in slui.exe 4 takes me to a screen that lets me buy a new product key or change the key but there is no phone option or " show me other ways to activate" (internet is unplugged).

This is using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit edition. It was bought as an upgrade copy from digital river. I got the key using a keyfinder program from the old machine before wiping it.

Here is my MGA report:

This OEM licence is only valid for an ACER/PACKARD or GATEWAY machine, so you cannot activate it on another computer. Doing so would violate the terms of the licence agreement which is specific to the original machine.

For the new machine, you will need to purchase a retail licence of Windows 7.

I'm a bit confused by your MGADIAG report too. I've never seen two instances of a different product key reported before.

One is for the OCUR addon, Golden - rare, but OK :) ( must be 18 months since I saw the last one?) - see Darin Smith's response here - Not Genuine (all of the sudden)

I note that the addon says it is licensed, while the OS itself is rightly refusing to activate an OEM_SLP Key n a retail motherboard.

As Golden says - you need to apply the proper Retail Key, rather than one filched off another computer.
Click on the Start button
In the Search box, type
SLUI 3
and hit the Enter key
Follow the instructions and enter the Key from your retail license.
you may need to activate by phone.

Now im even more confused, how did this end up being an ACER/PACKARD/GATEWAY OEM license? This was downloaded from the digital river store ages ago when Windows 7 first came out with the student discount.

Did I grab the wrong key from the original machine (I already wiped the hard drive, doh!) ? Or is my ISO file just bad? I haven't installed from it in years and may very well have mixed up my files. I don't even have access to my edu account, is it something that can be readily downloaded or can I 'convert' my installation to correct version?

And yes, I've got an HDHomeRun Prime and thus the OCUR license!

OEM Licenses cannot be transferred from machine to machine - that's why they are so much cheaper than Retail licenses
You will need to purchase a valid full license for your new machine.

OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows(from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table)found only on computers from thatManufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses inthe OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine isrebooted.

COA SLP: This is the key seen on the stickerlocated on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. Thiskey is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whateverreason.
