Activation of windows 7 with oem key and retail disc

After a long time i decided to format my laptop using a retail iso image (with updates) with rufus (the performance was degradated after some years of use)

i didnt lose anything i just made a separate partition smaller than the primary

my pc has COA OEM home premium key will it work?
Im afraid to activate it right now , thats why im asking

im typing from this new installation works all good now


refused to install windows 10
because this laptop is pre windows 10 and is working fine as it is with windows 7

its an acer aspire laptop from years back (it was medium high end way back i5 processor 8 gb ram and an amd video card) ; i tried to use the oem key and it failed

but i read somewehre if i stop the SoftwareProtection service for the licenses

it just leaves the nag screen and nothing else? I can live with that since it ended the support for home users

i just pass to windows 10 if an important program like Steam cease to work on 7
i just browsed this forum for similar topics; a lot of users have problems with keys lately

Your key should work, but you might need to call ms. As it is an oem machine, you could run 7oeminstaller instead to avoid faffing around with phone calls. It is the third one listed here 3 Tools to Backup and Restore Windows 7 and Vista OEM Activation License • Raymond.CC

i did it using the third tool it shows activated

im still downloading the most recent trial iso of windows 10 just in case i need it evetually

now i have the 20H2 both 32 and 64 bit on my external drive
