Activation Problems

Hey guys!

This is my first post on the forums and unfortunately it's not a good one. I removed the watermark on Windows 7 Ultimate RC Build 7100 and it stayed away for a month or two. But whenever I went into System Properties it used to say Not Available (See System Properties Activation.jpg in attachments).
But since a week ago a watermark came back but it was saying Windows Is Not Genuine (See Capture.jpg in attachments). And everytime I log on the screen goes black and a pop-up appears saying You may be a victim of Software Counterfeiting. And everytime I open a Windows-Included program like NotePad, Paint etc., A pop-up Appears saying To use this feature without interruption get Genuine Windows. And I used a Genuine RC Product key from Microsoft. Any help?

Zeshan

Similar problems have been reported by others (maybe you should try searching before posting) this response in another thread might help you...

Antman is right, there are numerous reports of Watermark Removal tools causing Windows to become non-genuine. The best option is to run Command Prompt as administrator then type SFC /SCANNOW as this will revert all system files to their default state. You should then be able to activate the RC through normal channels.

Hope this helps :)

Welcome to the 7forums!

Personally I would suggest to rather do a clean install of the RC, and to leave the watermark there.

Or download and install one of the leaked versions of the RTM (Just make sure the hashes are correct). That wil give you 4 months of use. (rearming). And no watermark.

You removed that watermark, doing that messed with the system in some way. Should have just left it alone.

You cracked the OS. Don't crack the OS. Run the OS uncracked.

Cracked OS = issues.

I'm all Cracked out now.

Thanks for All the quick replies!
@Stranger I did do a search but I found no solutions that worked!
I'm gonna try @Strangers method now and post back.
:D

OK, I tried Strangers method but I still get the same error and When I try to open Slui.exe (Activation Program) I get the error in SLUI.EXE Error which I have attached.Anymore Ideas?

Thanks,

And I'd rather not go for the clean install as I have a lot of stuff on this system and Windows 7 is the only OS on it!

Well then just do a repair/upgrade install. That will keep your apps, data and most of your settings, and while you're at it, might be a good idea to upgrade to the RTM build. (Yes, it can be done, see: Engineering Windows 7 : Delivering a quality upgrade experience).

An upgrade install to the RTM build worked great for me. The standard clean install advice, is, imo, a bit outdated. Yes, a clean install is always arguably the best or better, but W7 is much better at doing upgrade installs than any of the previous incarnations of Windows. I would give it a try. You just might be delighted with the results, as I was (after a few minor tweaks and adjustments that took less than 30 minutes). Worst case, you're not satisfied with the results and still have the option to clean install anyway.

An upgrade install to the RTM build worked great for me.

I have had the leaked Windows 7 Build ISO in my Downloads folder taking up space for ages.:D I want to upgrade to it (Upgrades from Beta/RC to RTM aren't available so I used Windows Easy Transfer) The only reason I haven't installed it is that I'm not sure theres a way to keep it activated and I'd rather stay with RC till 2010 than with RTM for 4 Months by rearming. I probably would've installed it anyway but my whole family (4 Other people) are using the laptop while the Desktop gets repaired and they wouldn't appreciate me doing that. Oh and BTW has your been Activated? If it has can you tell me the steps on how you did it?

Thanks,
ZeshanA

No mine has NOT yet been activated. I'm waiting for a TechNet subscription MS is supposedly giving me to become active so I can get a legal key, hopefully in the very near future.

My original plan was to keep re-arming until October when the key I preordered will be delivered. If the Technet thing really comes through, then I'll just be canceling my pre-order.

If you have a bunch of machines you need 7 for, I would just bite the bullet and pay for a Technet subscription or get the "family pack." I don't mind paying for great software if the price is fair. The special (now no longer available) preorder price for Home Premium for ~$50 was very fair and reasonable, imo, and I was very happy to be able to take advantage of that.

Kind of hard to understand what you are trying to say, so many internal inconsistencies in your post. But it sure sounds like you didn't read the link I posted above that you even quoted. So for the benefit of anyone else who may be reading this, I'll just correct the record here and say that you are very WRONG about upgrades from RC to RTM not being possible. The fact is, upgrades from the beta/rc to the RTM are possible and I even gave you a link to a MS site that explains step by step how it can be done. I'm reminded of the old saying, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink." :sarc:

Ok, Thanks for all your help but I think I'm just gonna live with it and dual-boot the RC with the RTM, keep rearming it and then buy a product key in October. :)

P.S Harpua you really did help me and I totally agree with your Sig but erm... I don't know how to Rep as I'm new to this whole "Forum Thing"! :D So... one last piece of advice? Please...

EDIT: So THATS what the scales button is for!!! LOL

Thanks,

ZeshanA
