Active Directory User and Computers
"MMC could not create the snap-in"

Anybody get this working?
I've googled to no avail

I've tried the Vista fix, registering a bunch of DLLs, but that didn't fix it.

Bump. Wow, this must be unresolvable. Any alternative solutions? Currently, I'm remote desktop'ing into an XP PC, cause I need AD Users and Computers for work, but I much rather not have to do that and have something working on Win7.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Yeah, I checked my PC via that info, but no resolution.

I have installed the RSAT Tools on my Windows 7 Machine and created the ADUAC MMC console

I can access AD ok - but i have limited functionality - Cant change passwords, unlock accounts etc..

Now i have two account and normal user and an admin account. I have logged onto my PC has normal user but i have my admin account on my machine and the UAC set to automatically use the admin account.

If i try to run the MMC with my admin account it faills with an error

Has anybody else seen this problem?

Domain and Forest is Server 2008

Thanks

   Tip
First of all, you may better check errors as reported inside Event Viewer for resolving Active Directory and related issues...

When i Ran As Different User and entered my Domain Admin account it failed - this was due to my Domain Admin account not having permissions on the MMC - even though my Domain Admin account was added to my Local Administrators Group which did have Permissions to the MMC

Tested this with a different Domain Admin account which failed also..

Anyway - added my Admin account and it works fine

You have to use a domain account with privileges to do those tasks. You cant use a local admin account thats just on your local computer and think it will work.

I was using a Domain admin account to run AD - and that account was part of my Local Admin group - which was specified to run th MMC - but it was not running correctly

I had to add the Domain admin account to the Security permissions of the MMC so it would run - even though my Domain Admin account was a member of a group which had the correct permissions to run the MMC

With me..

I can change password/unlock account ets. I just don’t have all the tabs in the properties windows. Dial-in and Live Communicator are two that I have to go back to my Visa computer to get to.
