It would also be nice if there was a tutorial where they explain how you can play multiplayer computer games using only ad hoc. There is no router ivolved just two wireless connection, laptop has built in wireless adapter and the dekstop has usb ireless adapter. TY, hopefully this clears it up, oh and i'm not interested in using ICS.

TY, I've made a connection and was able to connect to the host which is the desktop using XP, I connected to the dekstop with a laptop running windows 7 . I was able to play a multiplayer game via LAN....but when I try to find the Desktop(host) under the networks category on the latop It doesnt show up.

*Neither computer has Internet so ICS isnt wat im looking for....I want to share files between both computers...This tutorial was for sharing internet...TY Though,,once i get internet back on desktop ill use that tutorial so ill add it to favorites. TY

Well, if you set the sharing permissions for each folder you want to share you should be able to access the share using \\computername\sharename

Right-click the folder or drive and set the permissions to everyone with Full Control.

If you give permissions to the drive then you can access the whole drive using
\\computername\driveletter$

You can also use the IP address instead of the computer name. I have Windows 2000, Windows XP and Win7 computers all talking without issue.

This is the tutorial i've been trying to follow. When I right click and go to share to it only has a Nobody option and homegroup(read), and homegroup(read and write) then specific people. Windows XP doesnt have a homegroup option does it? I can only join it to a workgroup. or am i wrong..
What could I be doing wrong? ty
Networking home computers running different versions of Windows

I forgot to mention that when I connect to the ad hoc network provied by the XP(desktop)(host),i go to the laptop and I cant change the type of connection,,,,, it's set to public, but when I use linksys(wifi/internet) I am able to change the type of connection to home, public or work.
