Adaptec 29160 driver NOT installed - HOW?

Just to follow up on my own situation, I bit the bullet and managed to find a pretty cheap 29320A on Ebay ($30 shipped). After a bit of a mess swapping it in (As I didn't have enough free PCI slots to have both SCSI cards in at once without moving stuff) everything took fine in XP, and I went ahead and installed the Windows 7 x64 RTM as a dual boot with absolutely no problems at all.

Not a great solution, but it was so relatively cheap that I figured spending any more time going around in circles wasn't worth it!

I still hope Adaptec comes out with Ultra160 drivers, there seem to be a few minor incompatibility issues with my Asus P5WD2 motherboard (the 29320 doesn't allow the onboard SATA chipset to initialize during POST for some reason, although it works fine once Windows boots. But it means I can't see my ESATA drive until Windows is booted which is an issue as I had used it to Ghost to) which I'd prefer to go back to running the 29160. (I only have 1 HD and 1 CDRW left on SCSI so performance isn't the issue)

Thanks to all for posting here and trying to work out solutions. I still say you should email Adaptec support requesting Windows 7 drivers, there is no way they would be THAT difficult, and if they get enough requests they'd hopefully see the light. (the Win7 drivers for the 29320 have copyright dates of like 2003/2007 so they probably just recompiled the Vista drivers there.)

i was running the 29160 and 19160 via the PCI-X slot on my P5WDG2-WS and the onboard SATA problem when booting is a known issuethat Asus do not seem to be itnereste to solve. Everytime booting, you will need to press F1 if you have any SATA hdd installed with any adaptec SCSI card installed. i removed all SATA and moved all my SATA hdd to the HTPC.

My Goal: Install windows 7 64bit, split the drives having C with 100GB and D with 500GB on a Raid 0.

I assumed my SCSI controller had Raid on it but i found out that it doesnt and my motherboard wont be able to Raid SCSI drives. So i can live with that i guess...I have ran my windows 7 64bit setup disk and it cant see my drives although they show in bios and the controller card when pressing control and a or whatever it is. I have downloaded all the Vista 64 bit drivers for my mobo and the 64 driver found on this thread...i extracted and burnt onto disk....anyway when my machines gets to a screen to select the driver i have browsed to these folders but it doesnt find anything. Does anyone know what i am doing wrong?

It seems the release version of 64bit Windows 7 will not allow the recognition of unsigned drivers - although the beta did. The attempt to install the Vista64 bit driver gives the error "The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. ...." Does anyone know if the .inf file can be edited to include the "necessary entry?" and what the OS is looking for to confirm Win 7 64bit compatibility?

Mine Worked

Thanks for posting the Vista 64 drivers for the Adaptec 2916 board. I couldn't install Windows 7 64 with the board in my system, but I wasn't installing to a SCSI drive anyway. After removing the board the install went perfectly. I then re-installed the 2916 board and the Device Manager showed "driver not installed" but when I used the drivers your supplied, it went like clockwork. Thanks again for your help and solutions!

Thanks for the Vista x64 adaptec drivers. I got my 39160 running fine with them

Is there anything resembling an ASPI layer in Win 7 . My SCSI hardware is now recognised but some of my really old bits of software are failing with comments relating to "no ASPI layer is installed" etc

In particular I have an old DOS programme called DAT2WAV which extracts Audio .wav files from Audio DAT tapes read by my Sony SDT9000 DAT drive.
I also have a Windows application called Vdat which does something similar but both crash out complaining about "aspi"

Anyone got a workaround to get an RME Digi series souncard working on Win 7

I guess I should really install a dual bbot system

I was successful in installing my Adaptec 39160 card on Windows 2008 Server R2 Enterprise x64.
Just unpacked, then went to device manager, right clicked on the unrecognized SCSI controller (2 of them, I guess one for each chan ?), then update driver, specify, browse to the folder where I unpacked the driver, confirmed I really trust them, and that was it !
Now I am able to use my tape drive that is connected on the Adaptec 39160

Good news is adapter finally decided to get drivers for Windows 7 and W2k8 R2 (32 and 64 bit)... they are coming... hopefully soon...

2 months ago this was a NO but now it has changed to planned... I'll give it not more than 2 months and the official drivers will be out... good news...

Does anybody have an idea of the following problem:

I followed the instructions to install my adaptec 39160 scsi card and after that I installed a windows 7 installation. But: It seems SLOWER then my normal windows 7 version on my sata disc... Even windows 7 rated in "that buit-in performance scanner" my scsi disc as a 4.2 which is much slower then my sata disk, which was rated a 6.0.
The original installation on the sata became slower and I even had to wait to open a window, all after the scsi installation.

We're talking bout a U320 10k 68 gb scsi disk.

Anyone has a clue???

Adaptec has now posted Win7 drivers (32 and 64) for the 29160# cards. Didn't check for 39160.

You might be able to help me.
I own 2 x 29160N cards I never had a problem using either XP or 2000 with them: The installation process will recognize the card without any problems
Not so with Vista or Windows 7 - even when using the drivers published by Adaptec (as of January 2010)
I decided to buy a 39320A which Adaptec indicates supports Windows 7 - NOT SO
In fact the 39320A is not even recognized by XP !
I read with interest that you have been able to install Vista with a 29320 card without problems and I believe you said also Windows 7
Could you give me a road map on how to do it and the drivers (if any) needed?
Next step would be to find a few 29320 cards to purchase at eBay
