Hi,

I am trying to install drivers for an Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI card.

The adaptec website there is no 64 bit version available, but i have been reading around for solutions with no success.

I need the "Adaptec AIC-7870 PCI SCSI Controller" ... but there is no 64 bit version for that. When i try to install the drivers (there is no installer program, i just need to use the update drivers feature of windows) it says that it is not a 64 bit version so i can't use it.

Is there any solution to my problem?

Hello,
Please state your exact Adaptec scsi card info. What is the ID number on the card? Exactly, what card do you have? What is the firmware version currently showing on card. (boot into scsi utility to get some version info) Have you ever changed/upgraded the firmware on this card? When was this card manufactured? What scsi drives are you using? Ultra320 scsi? 160 scsi?

It appears you're trying to make the AIC-7870 PCI SCSI Controller act as an "emulated" drive, for 64 bit, on the 2940. Why?

You are on Win7 now? Was your card running on Vista x64 with x64 drivers? Did you upgrade to Win7 or clean install Win7?

Are you saying x64 drivers you have don't work with Win7?

Did you try this advice & NOT find x64 driver?
"in device manager, select the SCSI adapter, click "Update driver", "Browse my computer for driver software", "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", uncheck "show compatible hardware", and select "Adaptec" as Manufacturer and "Adaptec AIC-7870 PCI SCSI Controller (emulated)"

With more info, I may be able to help you.

It's the Adaptec AHA-2490. I haven't changed the firmware on this card. I am using a HP 6300 scanner with the card, connected through SCSI. (The usb port on it is broken and has not worked for years)

I was previously Windows XP x86, and now I'm using Windows 7 x64. I did a clean install.

There are no x64 drivers for this card full-stop.

I was trying the AIC-7870 driver because i read somewhere its compatible with the 2940, but I can't find it in the windows 7 driver bank either.

I read somewhere else that the xp 64 driver would be accepted but I can't find any, after a long time searching.

Is there a way to force the windows xp 32-bit drivers to load and hopefully work?

Edit: I also have tried selecting that driver, but it doesnt come up in my list of drivers when i follow those steps.

Windows 7 x64 driver for Adaptec 2940 SCSI card

If you can find someone with a Vista x64 system there is an "Adaptec AIC-7870 PCI SCSI Controller (Emulated)" driver in the Driver Store on that system that will work with Windows 7. For some reason, that driver was dropped from the in-box drivers in Windows 7.

It is located in the C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\djsvs.inf_6451fbc2 folder. Copy that djsvs.inf_6451fbc2 folder to your Win7 computer.

To install it, go to Device Manager, select your SCSI adapter, right click and choose Update Driver Software. In the Window that appears choose "Browse my computer for driver software". In the next window, enter the location of the djsvs.inf_6451fbc2 folder on your computer, then click Next. You will get warnings about the drive being unsigned and that it may not work. Say yes, you really do want to install the driver -- it will work.

I tried as suggested on a 2940U/UW on a clean install of Window 7 64-bit with no joy. W7 says cannot start (code 10). Any one else had success or other suggestions?
(P.S. Also tried the modification of taking out the NTx86 information on two lines of the .inf file suggested on Microsoft Technet, but that didn't work either.)

A 64 bit OS must use 64 bit drivers exclusively. There is no provision to run 32 bit drivers on a 64 bit OS.

Those SCSI cards have seen better days, I threw the 2 I had in the garbage they were 2940's and at least 10 years past their prime, so obsolete now, not worth $10 on ebay.

I have a driver installed for my AHA 2940 with windows 7 64 bit.
after installation it changes the card to an Adaptec AIC-7870 PCI SCSI Controller (Emulated)

do you known if this drivers is compatible with windows 10 x64 ?

Also, for 2940U2W, the only solutions is probably taking a copy of 2940U2W drivers of Windows 2003-x64 (or Windows XP 64 bits).

yes, they work fine, but it is an un-signed driver.
you have to do some changes in settings to make windows accept the driver. for the live of me I cannot remember what I did.
I will keep digging and will posy back if I can find the info.

If anyone create a package with these old driver, sign them with it's own signature, add a text file which explain there are no adaptec or microsoft approved driver, do you think adaptec will ask remove them from the web?
