Hello,

Still trying to find out why the Ports, Coms, etc don't show anywhere in Device Manager.

I noticed an old Post where it said to look in add/Remove Hardware.
Where do I find this Add/Remove Hardware option, please ?

There was also a Post to check the BIOS for this and to see if PORTS is set to Auto.
How, please.

And, if anyone has any thoughts on how to have the Ports show up in Device Manager, would be appreciative. I am fairly certain that at one time they did.
Can't imagine what might have happened.

Thanks,
Bob

Devices and Printers is probably what you are looking for to add a device. My Device Manager shows "Ports (COM &LPT)" This is in Windows 7. I notice you have XP and don't remember where it is in XP. Posting in an XP forum would probably be better than this Windows 7 forum.

Hi,

Guess my profile or whatever it is called needs revising.

I am using W7.

There is absolutely nothing related to Ports, Com, LPT, etc in the Device Manager Tree. There was at one time; no idea what might have happened.

Would sure appreciate any hints on how to get it back again, or to see a listing of.

And, I am also looking for "Add/Remove Hardware", not the Add/Remove Programs.
Any idea where it is ?

Again, Much thanks to everyone; realize that these are dumb questions, but will blame it on my age now,
Bob

There is no Add/Remove Hardware in Win7 as it's automated. Everything connected will show in Device Manager once you Show Hidden Devices in View tab.

Windows Updates is supposed to deliver drivers for what is not in the installer itself, and newer drives. Otherwise use Automatic method from Device Driver tab to search Windows Updates and/or the computer. Enable Hardware auto-updating to be sure: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

In addition check Printers and Devices which will queue most devices and show their status, giving useful Troubleshooters which actually do something in Win7. Be sure to choose to let it consult internet for Device information.

To trace an Unknown Device use this tool: Hardware Identification

That. ;) Thought this deserved highlighting as it's easily missed.
