New to the forum and Windows 7! Just setting up a new laptop with W7 Pro. I would like to add a .scr file I created and used in my Windows XP Pro. Can I just move a copy of it into the Windows>System32 directory and then select it in the Personalization window (selecting the theme I'm using and then Screensaver)? In XP of course this was all done by right clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties. This brought up the Display Properties window where everything could be changed.

Anything to be careful of when adding to the System32 directory? Just don't want to screw anything up!

TIA for any information

worked for me at least. I wanted my good ol starfield simulation back so I copied the scr file from an older windows. It's even the 32-bit version of the saver (I'm on 64-bit win) and it seems to work fine. Have had no issues.

Haven't done this in awhile. After bringing the .scr file into the new laptop do I have to use the Install option in the context menu to have it work? I tried putting it into the Windows>System32 directory but that didn't seem to work. Also, will this cause any severe problems with the system if I do it this way? I ask only because I've spent a lot of time configuring this laptop and don't want to start over with a Recovery if I screw it up? Been there, done that with other OSs.
