I'm not sure what happened, I know I have had the Txt option in my new menu when I right click on the desktop, some how it disappeared, which has forced me to use other programs I don't really want to.

How can I re-add that txt option to the new menu?

Probably 3 ways to try and get it back.

go to search type in cmd
in cmd type in
sfc /scannow

It that does not work
take your windows dvd and place in in the drive. When you have to make the choice, chose upgrade. Its a repair at this juncture.
If that does not work just do a system restore, from a point that the computer operated properly
