I just added a USB Expansion card to my Desktop PC.

It has 4 USB ports-3 outside, 1 inside.

now my question is what would you use the single inside USB port for?

Mabye its just me but it seems sort of pointless to have a USB port internal. Isnt that what the other types of connectors are for? I.E they are not meant to be removed?

It could be used connect the front USB ports of your case (if you have them) It could also be used for a multi-card reader (reads multi-media cards like a SD card etc. ) And I have heard of internal usb HDD/DVD drives being connected to the USB ports internally.

My front USB ports are connected directly to the motherboard.

I was thinking of a USB hard drive, could i just plug it in there and then put it in a hard drive slot?

Would this work? Or is it better to get an actual system hard drive instead?

What is your Desktop motherboard ? If you have the space to mount a HD, a system HD (SATA or IDE) would be better than USB.

I was thinking of putting one of those in my rig. I just use my old SanDisk reader. It still works great for me. My rig is pretty complete. I just added push/pull set up for my heatsink. What a difference.

My system is a Dell Insprion 530s.

Yes, i was probably thinking that a system hard drive would be faster than a USB. I think USB hard drives are meant to act as very large portable disks.

I think it's meant for one of those USB floppy/card reader gizmo's. Its probably a good spot for a USB ready boost drive if you use one.

The internal usb is normally for 3.5 card readers for people who don't have an extra usb header on the motherboard.

If i use a USB Flash drive as readyboost, what size should i use? Should i match my physical amount of RAM? I have 2GB now, so should i used a 2GB Flash drive? (my system can go up to 4GB, which i plan to upgrade in the future) Also, is this the same thing as Virtual Memory from older versions of Windows?

You rarely need to match you Readyboost to ram. Usually the same will do.

It doesn't work the same way as page file. After many years of using this and on Vista and
something with XP ( can't remember the name ), I see too much bull out there. KISS.
