I have an HP W7 64 bit PC and I'm trying to add an internal 4TB.

I not exactly a PC genius but I did refer to the installation instructions and it directed me to Paragon Software where I DL'd a file and ran it after adding the hard drive but it did not see the drive.

Is any open SATA III port on the Motherboard good for connecting a HDD?

I guess I'll look into Disk Manager, just thought I'd stop by and ask the gurus what they thought.

Many thanks

Usually before anything can see the drive it has to be partitioned. The drive has to be initialized into partitions which can then be formatted for use. this can be accomplished with the Disk Management tool in Windows.

Any SATA port on the MB is OK, but you should have them used sequentially, 1,2,3... is better than 1,2,5, for instance, though in reality it doesn't really matter too much. It's just a cable management thing. If your cables are all together, it's easier to bundle them. At least for me.

I assume you are aware that a 4GB drive has to be formatted in GPT. In MBR mode you can only access appr. 2.2GB.
