Adding a network HD to my homenetwork for the Public folder in Win7

I'm wondering, not being experienced in putting networks together, if I can assign an HD to hold the Public shared folder on a homenet work. How is it added? I have tried to do such things previously whetehr it by folders or HDs and just botched everything.

What I have done with this Win7 install is just use the assigned Public folder and given the name 'homenet' in the old style filesharing, not what Win7 invented as an additional layer.

The architecture currently is:

Two computers are connected via ethernet with a four port switch and through that the switch the dsl modem is also connected. This allows file transfer between the two machines.

The goal is to get the _shared file _ duplicate load off the computers main system drive(s) and store the shared Public folder on a slave disk. My ethernet wire is 100 feet. I don't know if loading some media on the storage node of the network would cause dropouts over the distance. It would make this project useless if so.

Finally what is the location of the shared folder? It has to have some physical space but I don't know how to find it.

And how do I subscribe to my threads? I usually see mail notification
below the entry. Up in Thread tools it just says unsubscribe as an option. I'd like email notification on my profile
