In XP I could drag shortcut to the Start Up item in the Start Menu and they would load at boot time. I have tried this in Win 7(64) but nothing happens. Is there a trick here? I am trying to load standalone progs (portable if you like) which are not actively installed.

This works exactly the same as in XP. Where are you having problems? In putting a shortcut in startup or in it don't working once placed?

It may be faster if the OP just posts a screen shot of the StartUp Folder. We can see what's what.
