Solved Adding Drivers to Sysprep Image

I have a quick sysprep question. When adding drivers to the the WinPE install image using DISM, do I also have to add them to the other sections of sections so they are available for the OS later on such as using a distribution share? If I need to update or remove drivers down do I have to remake the image with a changed and updated.

Hi

Usually you don't need to add drivers to the WinPE image except RAID drivers. RAID/AHCI drivers which are added to the WinPE will be automatically integrated to Windows by the setup process. Other drivers like LAN, WLAN etc should be added to the install image but not to WinPE.

As far as i know, there is no reliable method to remove drivers. This is because Windows will rename added drivers as oem1 , oem2 etc. It will be harder to find which driver is which. So i would recommend keeping a backup copy of your customized image before adding drivers. When you need to add updated drivers, work with the backup copy and replace the current image with new one.
