Additional storage HD

I have physically installed and hooked up my additional hard drive, a sata3 1 tb drive.
My booting drive, a 320 is a sata3 as well so i have no master/slave switches.

How do i make my computer recognize the 2nd drive and format it for use?
When I boot up nothing shows up in My Computer

Go into the Bios of your computer (it will be something like the del key, f8, f12, f10, esc, f2, etc). You have to do this before Windows starts loading.

It should already be showing in the BIOS< but it doesn't hurt to check. The usual next step is to boot into Windows, go into Disk Management, and format the drive. That processes will assign it a drive letter and make it visible.

So I get into the bios and then what do i do?

See if the new HD shows up in Disk Management.

Start :ar: Computer Management :ar: Disk Management

It should show up as an UnAllocated disk

It then needs to be Initialized & Formatted

You first will need to click in the unallocated space and select the "create new volume" option. Once you have a new primary on the drive you can right click again and select the format option for NTFS. The volume creation wizard will prompt about mbr and label for the new volume.

Check the 7 pin data cable as well as the 15pin power feed at the back of the drive. You want to be sure those are both plugged in securely as well as checking the 7 pin at the board end to see if it is plugged in fully there too.

If you find each one is secure try a different 7pin if you have another lying around. Every so often I'll run into one that isn't so good. Plus that will rule that out.
