Admin warning mssg

Hi all

I have unhidden the original Admin account following info from the forum.
Deleted the one I created (created cos I couldnt find the hidden one).
All works fine.

Thought would be good idea to set Admin password.
I got an unexpected warning about encryption and password back up.

As this is a new laptop - do I need to worry about this ?

Hello Digory.



It is a really, really bad idea to use that account for every-day use as any malware that finds its way into the system will have free reign to make changes to the system with no warning to you; UAC is not the OS asking if you know what you are doing, it is the OS asking if you know what the OS is doing and in that account you will get now advance warning.

Should say, definitely not my intention to use ADMIN account for everyday use.
Never did this in XP so was not planning to do so W7 for reasons you mention.
I created a new (now deleted) admin account just to load / maintain the system.
Was only after reading forum I realized that there was a hidden ADMIN account.
I always have a std user account for daily use.

I do not have access to the W7 laptop at the moment for a "snip" but from memory:
Warning mssg popped up when I setting a password for ADMIN along lines of
loosing EFS-encrypted files, certificates and passwords – make a password reset disk.

As this is a new laptop and I dont recall having done anything that this would affect - should I worry.

Do you have viable system restore points created before you started changing accounts around though if you don't have access to the lappy at present you can't check?


I wouldn't be too concerned, that seems to be a standard warning that any encrypted files/data will be lost if the pass is changed; make the password reset disk linked above, remember that a PR disk created in one account will not work to change the pass in another account, only the account it was created in.
