This happens to me a lot. Today, again. I clicked to download a patch for a program I have on my computer. I want to put the patch IN the program it is designed for. But an anoying popup tells me I have no right to do this and I have to put it in my User folder.

Why?

Vista and 7 are fussy about files being copied to C:.

You could try following the steps in this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html and then you can take ownership of the folder you're wanting to copy too and it *should* work.

Hello Cissy,

For security reasons, Windows 7 and Vista will only allow you to download file to your desktop or a user folder. Afterwards, you can move them to any location on your computer. You cannot download directly to the C:\Windows, C:\Program Files folders.
