Administration problems

I am logged on as an administrator (so at least the system tells me, when I try to check this), but I am nor allowed by the system to alter a file, that I need to customize in order to set up an Apache configuration correctly. Every time I try, I am told either to contact the system administator or save file in a different directory, where it does'nt belong. The administrator however happens to be myself, and I am quite unable to help my unfortunate user, who also happewns to be myself. I'm going crazy over this nonsense. Can anybody help?

Honestly I think those who have constructed these systems ought to have their heads examined. Do I simply have to give up?

Drag the httpd.conf file to your desktop, open it there. Make your changes save then drag the file back into Apache's directory. You can avoid things by not installing Apache into Program Files. You would run into the same exact thing on Linux, its no different. Alternatively, run your editor application as Admin (right-click > run as Admin) then open the file from the application's open dialog.

Thanks for the advice. I ran my editor "as administrator", and this did the trick! Now apperently, the Apache (localhost) webserver is functioning (with simple html-files), but I cannot figure out how to install PHP, so that I can work with PHP coding. I have tried installing this, but the small test file I have made located at the root is not being interpreted at all (also I got the information during the installation, that the httpd.conf file could not be accessed, so I would have to configure this manually. Apparently it cannot be accessed because of missing admistrator right during installation?
So I'm still stuck coincerning the main reason why I wish to istall Apache, namely in order to be able to develop and test PHP-code locally.

I know, this is a bit complicated perhaps, but I would appreciate very much, if anybody could help.

Really what I wish is a vewry simple cook book style description of, how you can (from scratch maybe) install a virtual "localhost"-webserver on a Windows 7 system eneabling you to develop, test and debug PHP-files on a local computer (including access to local MySql-databases). It ought to be very simple, as I have no special desires regarding this, but appears to be somewhat of a scientific challenge incuding psycic abilities with regards to selecting the right options along the way and doing the reqiured operations in the correct order.

Can anybody help?

I tried the above, but Icannot make SQL or Phpadmin work. Its the usual thing: try this and try thbat, maybe etc..
What I want is some very concrete and foolproof advice. But maybe I have to give up alas.

Php as such is now working thanks to WAMP, and many thanks for that advice! But with regards to being able to create and use Mysql-databases I am totally stuck after having spent hours and hours on trying this thar and the third. Why can't system developers understand, that thousands of interesting optiuon are of no use to newcomers? It is concrete foolprof advice, that is essential.

As a result of my messing about trying to overcome the last problems, nothing works again with regards to neirther php or SQL

I now tried to reinstall WAMP, but NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING of what I want works now, and I have no idea why.

Say that I remove everything concerning both Apache and PHP and WAMP.
Could anybody suggest, what I could do the to get running with a localhost-server MYSQL and PHP interpretation.
I'm going crazy over this. Please help, If you can.

I have tried removing and reinstalling WAMP several times now. Always with the same dissappointing result: Nothimg useful happens. It's absolutely useless.

I have just got a new dell pc with windows 7 professional, I find it very fratrating like you, that everytime I want to put a plug in into my plug in folder, I am asked to askt he administrator which I am like you.

So how do I ask my self or how do you over ride this problem in order to add things into files please

Have you tried disabling UAC to see if that helps at all.. that generally gets rid of all of the administrator prompts.
