IE9 and Adobe Flash Player 10.3

Just downloaded FP 10.3 (on an automatic update from FP 9.xxx), and it fails using IE9 (32 bit) on my Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. Uninstalled and reinstalled FP 10.3 twice with a restart after each operation. No go. Flash Player stuff either simply doesn't show or shows way out of position on the page. This is the very first time I've run across this problem (or any problem whatsoever) in all the years of using Flash Player with IE.

Anyone else experiencing this problem, and, if so, any suggestions as to what the problem is and how to fix it?

Hmm, not sure. Using 10.3 with 1E9 on a x64 system, no problems here.

Might check after uninstalling flash that nothing's in these folders here -

Windows/SyswWOW64/Macromed
Users/Appdata/Roaming/Macromedia

Not sure if it's an option for you, but might also reset IE, and try installing it after that.

Are you saying those folders should be empty?

And, no, a reset of IE is out of the question.

Are you saying those folders should be empty?

Yes. Inside the Flash folder of Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed should be empty after an uninstall. Same for inside of "Macromedia" folder in Appdata/Roaming/Macromedia.

If all else fails, a reset of IE may be the only way to rectify the problem. Not saying it would definitely fix it, but it's a step that might just help.

Up to you.

Wasn't mentioned, but I'm sure you've already followed all the steps here? - Common Flash Player download and installation issues (Windows)

I am having the exact same issues as acdouglas. I am trying to go back to the older version of flash 10.2 - there were never any problems.
Any other suggestions?

Again, no go.

I'm afraid I've had it with this. I'm simply going to switch to Firefox 4 (where FP 10.3 works perfectly) and retire IE9 until some future date when Adobe or Microsoft (or both) deals with whatever this problem may be with IE9 and FP 10.x. Since 1981 (no, that's not a typo), every machine I've ever owned has been "Microsoft pure". This will be the very first time I've had to opt for the product of another maker where the product is one that Microsoft also makes.

Damn shame.

Thanks for your help.

There are older version here, archived/unzip the folder, pick one you want -

10.3 does add a settings manager in the Control Panel (used to only be assessable in the Adobe web page manager) where you can delete the content.

Sorry couldn't be of more help. 10.3 works just fine on my system with both FF and IE9, so probably a local problem on your end.

Got the same problem after upgrading as well :(

Doesn't bother me much though as I use Chrome as my default browser anyway, but it's a shame it wasn't found & reported during the beta phase.

For reference mine is IE9 on a 32-bit Windows 7 install.

I get flickering, and flash content being out of place.

Try https://browsercheck.qualys.com/

on scanning your PC (takes a couple of seconds ) it flags any issues you have and if you allow it updates Flash for you.

Didn't fix the issue for me stve. It def involves latest flash update, because everything was fine up to that point. I'll just use chrome or firefox till a cure comes along. Thanks for your effort, and the link to the browsercheck. I can see where it could be helpful in a diff scenario.

Hi AC,

It isn't a Microsoft problem, I assure you. Your faith in MS is well-founded. My x64 machine runs it perfectly. There's something else wrong... have you tried running the pages you're trying to view in Compatibility View?

I have indeed tried Compatibility View (it was the very first thing I tried). No go.

I suspect you're right that it's not Microsoft's fault here but Adobe's. But as things stand, makes no difference whose fault it is. IE9 is simply unusable without a functioning Flash Player; ergo, my switch to Firefox 4 for as long as the IE9-FP10.3 problem persists.
