Adobe Reader

I have a problem with Adobe 9 since I upgraded to win 7 and it is I cannot open anything and I get a box with a ? on the left top and OK at the bottom right.

Can anyone tell me how to cure the problem please.

Just a FWIW observation. Unless you absolutely, positively, without a doubt need Adobe Reader, there are several free alternatives that are smaller in size, load faster, and don't contain as much bloatware. A few examples are Sumatra, Cute PDF reader, Nitro PDF reader, PDF-Xchange viewer, Cool PDF reader, and Foxit.

I have tried most of these and find Foxit the best. Adobe is a no no. Secure PDF Reader

Now if we could just do something about the 2 million websites claiming "to view this PDF file you need to download Adobe Reader" as if it was the only one on the damn planet. :banghead:

That's like saying "you need Windows to use this computer/home theater PC/smartphone/digital kitchen sink". Only worse.

My point exactly. And that just makes me sad sometimes - marketing which actually takes advantage of so many people's lack of knowledge about better alternatives.

Don't know why everyone is beating up Adobe Reader other than because it's the defacto PDF reader but I've been using some semblance of it (mainly Adobe Acrobat) since 1998 and have never had an issue with it. Currently using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.

And there isn’t a piece of software on this planet that hasn’t been problematic – Including Windows 7.

Anyway it would have been nice to help the OP the software he was using, but they found an alternative so....

Just my two cents.

It's not a bad product. It is just slower than it should be and the alternatives are faster and have more features.

If you received the Ask Toolbar (bundled with Foxit) ... uninstall it from Programs and Features. Then, navigate to c:\program files\ask.com and delete that folder.
