Advanced SystemCare Free - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Anyone have real-world experience comparing CC Cleaner with Advance System Care ? CNET downloads are 3 to 1 in favor of Advance Care.

I realize Advance Care offers more options, but am curious to which one provides the best service vs effect on system. Are the options offered by Advance Care necessary or can they be accomplished as effectively by using the built-in Windows functions ?

My interest is that after a recent clean install, I downloaded CC Cleaner and it did not seem to work properly. Took long time to activate, etc. Just curious about the comparison. Thanks !

Optimizer suites never work out well with Win7 and are a major cause of problems we see here. It simply doesn't need optimizing as it's a perfect OS out of the box with adequate hardware.

CCleaner is perhaps the most highly respected little app in the tech world, used by old ladies and programmers alike. In 12 years of installing it hundreds of times representing thousands of uses I have never seen a single issue with its Disk or Registry tab cleaners.

I also like Puran free Defragger which offers a Boot Mode defrag which can reach System files, along with a full Disk Check, and an intelligent optimizer on it's Additional Operations tab which moves most-used files to the outer edge of HD to be read faster.

All that said, the built-in Disk Cleanup and Defragger in Win7 is perfectly adequate.

Advance System Care looks like one of many snale-oil program which Win 7 doesn't need. The Deep Clean and Quick Care option may slow or disable important system functions and stop needed start-up programs. It also has its own defrag program. I don't recommend and defragger except Windows 7's built-in one. The OS likes to have files in a specific order and other programs don't adhere to this.

CCleaner has been used a lot here and is mostly viewed as good. It will clean all of your 'junk' and temp files and is quite configurable. Its registry cleaner has been shown to be safe while others can kill a system.

I'm a big supporter of CCleaner as well. I'm wondering what you did or what version you thought you were installing, if you needed to wait for it to activate. It's freeware.

I agree with Greg, Britton, and Decon completely. Anything that describes itself as a "system-invasive program" worries me immediately. Also, the registry cleaning options are not only unnessacery, but potentially dangerous as many are inaccurate as to what can and cannot be safely removed. Ccleaner's mostly checks for things like unused files extensions, which can easily be readded later, and registry keys that clearly have the associated file missing, so it is very unlikely to make the system unusable, and it encourages you to back up the keys are deleting, which you should. Also, the built in Disk Defrag does a really good job, but some people have software that they just prefer to use instead of others that are available.

Also, a lot of recommended steps to "optimize" Windows 7 are redundant, actually slow it down, or make some functions not work. Many only make a positive effect if working with severly limited hardware, like less than 2GB of ram, less than 30GB of total HDD space, or an older video card or processor.

I installed the latest CC Cleaner edition. By not activating, I mean it took much longer (maybe 30-45 seconds) to clean/remove the files.

I have used CC Cleaner without incident. My interest was that Advance Care exceeded CC downloads on CNET by 3 to 1.

I agree with the above replies that optimizer/additional suites can be a problem. But again, great number of people are downloading.

Thanks to everyone for the great replies.

Most people don't go to CNet for downloads, either, so I wouldn't put any faith in their download numbers. I get all of my apps and software from MajorGeeks.com.

Well I have used both IObit ASC and CCleaner, with IObit, I have never had a problem with it since I uncheck Registry during the Scans.

Me too Keith, I only use CCleaner and Speccy, haven't had a need for Recuvva....so far. As for C|net, I don't see a need for a 'download manager' for anything.

Especially since they started adding in crapware to programs downloaded from CNET.

Fail.

The main reason for that is that must people just download Ccleaner from Pariform's website, which offers a few different great tools designed by the same people BTW.

Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide!

I downloaded CC Cleaner from Piriform and prefer to download software from the OP.

However, I like to read CNet and other reviews, especially with user comments. I had never heard of Advance Care, but was surprised it exceeded CC Cleaner by such a large number in downloads, hence the reason for this post.

In the beginning there were honest and reputable software purveyors. On the 4th day many turned to the Darkside and can't be trusted. C|net is one I used to use often, but not for downloads anymore.
It is far better to use the authors' sites if possible.

Many use fake reviewers too to promote products.

Yeah, I look at Cnet for user reviews, but mostly concentrate on the negetive reviews to see what is the worst case scenario with a product. Some stuff, all the negetive reviews are nit-picky stuff. Some contain the tech version of High Octane Nightmare Fuel. I used to download stuff from there but as Greg said, some stuff has crapware bundled with it, that isn't if you downlaod from the creator's website.

User comments are the only reason I go there anymore and even that is tailing off. A shame really , used to be a nice place to spend a few hours just browsing.
MajorGeeks here too or publishers site.

Anyway, Ccleaner for sure here. Have used it for years with not problem one yet. Tried one of the older ASC's for awhile but uninstalled and haven't even looked at the newer editions. Too many ways for it to go wrong imho.

I have used both CCleaner and ASC 5. I must admit
that the only reason I downloaded and gave ASC a
go was because of the number of people who had downloaded it through CNet.

I said to myself - self, what could it hurt.
Well I had no problems with ASC even when I had it "Fix" registry "problems",
however, I found that you could run the software and then run it five minutes later
and the same ammount of "problems" were once again detected. At this stage I
started to wonder why I was bothering when I had no indication of a serious
performance issue with my machine and was starting to put up with the nagware
trying to sell me a "full" version which would be able to "fix" that many more "problems"
if only I shell out somewhere in the vicinity of $15.

Does the crapware code that comes with the download still junk
up your machine if you deselect the checkbox for said crapware upon
installation? Can't remember exactly what it was - IO Bit and probably
the pesky Ask Toolbar or something - anyway - CCleaner for me also even
though I understand why the OP asked in the first place.

I must admit that I use optimize tools as it really have some impact on my system every time. Its depend on user choice which software to use as there are lots of option like tuneup utilities, glary, asc, cccleaner.
If you are talking about asc and ccleaner I think asc is good in cleaning and optimizing and speed up your pc more than any other software however I dont trust its vendor Iobit and you can see the data is sent to iobit server from your computer.
If you want to use asc block it from using network by blocking in firewall and use the tool without tension and if you want no headache use cccleaner+ccenhencer+puran defrag.

Quite the opposite. At best, they leave your system as is. At worst, the hose your system and or cause new issues. If you feel they do anything positive, then you can chalk that up to the placebo effect. Stick to tried and true methods.
