Hi peeps,

I recently got given a compaq cq52-a25sa which is a very low end laptop but surprisingly can handle most tasks quite well, can run games likes dead space, bioshock 2, mass effect and battlefield band company 2 on high setting which I was really surprised at as the processor is pants, the main uses of my laptop is Internet, watching movies, visio and the odd photoshop plus vbox for work.

I would like a new laptop and quite fancy the dm1-4020sa just wondered if anyone had any experience of this thing.

My previous laptop nx6325 was great with 2gb ram only problem was the 4:3 screen.

Thanks

I personally have not owned a HP Pavillion DM1-4020SA but from what I've heard and read it is a good, sturdy laptop. The only thing is, it was made for simple, day to day use not gaming. The dual core AMD E-450 isn't the best for gaming but the Radeon 6320M is decent. The audio however is excellent.

You could also consider laptops from ASUS. They have some really good ones on offer. Great specs, pleasing designs and well built.

HP laptops are not a good choice (poor ventilation, average specs.) when it comes to gaming. ASUS, on the other hand, have plenty of experience, thanks to their gaming line of laptops.

+1 for gregrocker!
Make sure you have made Recovery and Backup discs.
Then check Start up in msconfig and uncheck items you don't want. This will make your
startup faster.

Whatever laptop I buy I will be formatting and installing a fresh copy of window 7 pro vlk I can't stand manufacturers pushing there extra bundles on people.

I personally have never had any issues with HP, they have been my main supplier of laptops for my old company as I found issues with other makes and never had any issues other thank cracked screens with hp. But never used hp for gaming, business only. Do Asus do a compact laptop like the dm1-4020s similar specs?

Thanks for the help :-)

I can't find any ASUS notebooks for around £300 pounds which is around the price range of the DM1-4020SA. ASUS makes very good notebooks but they are quite expensive and don't compare with HP value wise. You may want to however look at some of the less known brands such as Lenovo and eMachines. Both companies make excellent laptops for a lot less then some of the more reputable brands.
