Hi all

Just wanted to ask a quick question before i start setting up my new mini test network environment at home.

At the moment my current setup is I have my Billion router (192.168.1.254) handling everything DHCP, DNS etc. I have set the DHCP range on the router to 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.105 so i can have 6 devices on my network with a DHCP address. Any other devices on my network will have a static IP.

I am looking to setup a domain controller on server 2008 r2 for test purposes as i am studying Servers at the moment and Im reading that its best to let the domain controller handle DHCP, DNS etc. I am going to put 3 Laptop devices (all wireless connected) onto my domain all running windows 7 pro. I am also going to have 2 devices My desktop machine and my work Laptop not on the domain (hard wired to the router).

My main question is if i disable DHCP on the Router and let the new Domain controller handle this as well as DNS will this stop my 2 devices not on the domain from connecting to the internet? Could i perhaps leave DNS on in my router but set the primary DNS to that of the domain controller and the secondary dns to the default ones that my router is currently using now?

Sorry if i sound kind of silly im just slowly working my way into this

By chance did you figure this out? I really want to segment my 'test' environment out so that it doesn't interfere with my production day-to-day home network. I did setup a domain controller in a VMware session and sure enough the host computer lost network connectivity. The virtual server maintained it's connectivity. I'm having a hard time finding simple documentation for setting up a domain controller in a test environment.
