Advice please on Fresh Install

I am planning to do a fresh installation today of my system have a few questions though.

1. Can I safely delete the windows set up and boot 100mb file as I am sure when I install windows it will create a new one.

2. I will be using my SSD drive to install Win 7 on, will windows automatically recognise that it is set to AHCI or do I have to change it in windows once it is installed?

Hello Steve.





If it's set to AHCI in the BIOS prior to install, Windows 7 will recognize that and install the correct drivers without any external input.


After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "clean all" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

Use the partitioning commands given in the HD wiping tutorial Barefoot posted to avoid being assigned the 100mb System Reserved partition, unless you want the Repair My Computer console it places on F8 Advanced Boot Tools.

If you want to customize your partitions a bit more, use free Partition Wizard bootable CD.

To avoid the 100mb using installer, delete partition assigned for windows install and enlarge 100mb partition to use as your C install target partition, then make any other partitions you want with installer, format all before installing to first partition.
