Hi
Advice please on this update from July 2018
KB4338818
Release Date: 10 July 2018
Version: Monthly Rollup
Often I will check to see if Windows Updates have reported problems.
Microsoft themselves warned about known issues with this update.
There were four problems (see link below) but three were solved with
"This issue is resolved in KB4338821"
Access Denied
BUT the other was NOT.
That's why I'm asking for help because I cannot afford for my machine to be down.
PLEASE NOTE: I could follow the MS workaround BUT a few weeks ago
with another problem I had - I found out that INTEL have discontinued all
support for drivers.
So I'm worried that I could really screw my system.
====================================================
This is what MS state;
Symtom
After you apply this update, the network interface controller may stop working
on some client software configurations. This occurs because of an issue related
to a missing file, oem<number>.inf. The exact problematic configurations are
currently unknown.
Workaround
To locate the network device, launch devmgmt.msc; it may appear under Other Devices.
To automatically rediscover the NIC and install drivers, select Scan for Hardware Changes
from the Action menu.
a. Alternatively, install the drivers for the network device by right-clicking the device and
selecting Update. Then select Search automatically for updated driver software or Browse
my computer for driver software.
====================================================
I hope that all makes sense.
Thanks in advance.
Stephen
