I recently heard about the Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2010. Does anyone know if it is any good or not?
I've heard different things about it and was curious.

I also agree with thathagat. there are better alternative available. but i always believe to try any new thing before making my mind because the product doesnot suite me seems to suite other. so u can give it a try and download the trial version to see how it goes........... Always remember to uninstall any AV with the Unisntaller the vendor provides. Here is the AV compatatives result. http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report26.pdf

Reagardless what AV or AV suite you choose, the free version of
Malwarebytes is an excellent companion. Highly recommended!

I tried trend a while back and didnt like it.

My recomendations would be:
->For free: MSE
->For paid: NIS 2010.

As always with these types of questions, its really personal preference. Find one that suites you.
If you're looking to buy one, they all have a free trial to check them out before you buy.
The best security is the user themselves.

Are you looking to replace Norton?

This test and AV-Comparatives May 2010 and February 2010 tests are interesting regarding Trend Micro.

Im actually pretty happy with it.

Can't even tell its running (resource wise) and since I started using it in Oct last year..

Not 1 problem so far with Viruses or Malware. I run Malwarebytes weekly but it never finds anything :( (still good to have though)

So far, NIS has caught absolutely everything, so I honestly couldn't ask for more.

Also love the fact it goes into silent mode when it detect a FS game, so it isnt scanning or interfering with the game.

Of course everyone has and are entitled to thier own opinion.
This is just mine.

:doh:I should have mentioned that I was addressing codyw.

When I had Norton 2009/2010/2011 installed, my experience was the same as yours, Wishmaster, minus NIS catching everything (there was nothing to catch).

No where in this thread was mentioned codyw uses Norton.

Your post was the first to mention Norton and your post was right before mine. Pretty logical to assume I was directing the question at you...

No, I'm not replacing Norton. A couple of my friends were asking me about Trend. Since I didn't know much about the outfit, I decided to come here. I have heard different things about them though, including their detection varies.

Trend Micro is a poorly-rated security solution. It doesn't seem to catch everything. I would never use it even if you pay me. I highly prefer MSE and Malwarebytes.

I've heard different things about it and was curious.

I have used it on one 64-bit laptop here. No complaints either.
A lot of people use & recommend it. [as with every other AV program]

From some of the tests that I saw on YouTube about it, it doesn't handle threats very well when found. It basically lets it up to you whereas Norton either deletes them or quarantines them for you with nothing said! That's how all AV's should be. If you have an average user who doesn't a thing about a computer and they get some kind of alert saying that multiple viruses were found on their machine and that they should perform a scan, they are either going to have a heart attack or just ignore it.
That's where I disagree with the way Trend deals with viruses (from what I saw in the reviews that I watched).
Another website that I stumped upon was PC Antivirus Reviews. They test antivirus and internet security suites. They gave Trend AV + AS a 62% and gave Trend IS a 63%.
Because there is a Pro version, I wonder how it ranked. Probably not any better.
On this website from PC Reviews, they also list the pros and cons of the programs they tested. Trend AV + AS had the following pros:
  • Decent resource usage overall
  • Easy installation
  • Good user interface
  • Money-back guarantee

The cons for the program was:
  • Mediocre antivirus protection
  • Poor antispyware/adware protection
  • Average customer service
  • Poor real-time protection

After I saw that it had poor real-time protection, that kind of turned me away from it.

Trend Micro IS had the same pros as the AV + AS did but different cons:
  • Poor antivirus
  • Poor anti-phishing
  • Poor anti-spyware
  • Average firewall
  • Poor real-time protection

They listed on the page for TIS how the firewall didn't catch anything unless it was set to the highest it could go.

Unbelievable...
