After the Windows Updates last night, Outlook throws an error when trying to connect to either the incoming or outgoing mail server. I don't have a problem going direct to the server using Webmail. I have a Macintosh that connects to the same server and is working. On a Linux workstation I set up Thunderbird Mail and that works.

I tried using system restore and I got a message that it didn't work, but when I went in to see if there was another restore point to use, the first entry asked if I wanted to undo the restore.

I tried to individually uninstall the updates, but they still showed as installed, but Windows Updates now had then queued to be installed.

Any clues or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Try a system restore from safe mode. Some anti virus programs ( example, Defender) will prevent system restore from functioning properly.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Things tried so far

I tried System Restore in Safe Mode. No Luck. Thanks for the tip pbcopter. :(

I tried the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT), no errors.

I did an SFC Scan, no errors.

I checked Windows Updates for errors, none.

I had to delete all but the latest CBSpersist CAB files to get under the limit. I zipped them into a separate file
