After Hibernation/Slumber

Hey all, I don't know the difference between Hibernation/sleep mode so let's first explain that to me

Second, after my computer hibernates and I wake it up it asks me for my password. Now I don't have a password so all I do is hit enter. But is there a way to skip this step altogether?

basically, I want to come out of hibernation and go to desktop and not the User page asking for password.

I'll give a generic description from one of Brinks tutorials.

Sleep -

Sleep saves any open documents and programs to memory only, and then puts the computer into a low-power state.

Hybrid sleep -


Hybrid sleep saves your open documents and programs to memory and to the hard drive, and then puts the computer into a low-power state. After the Hibernate after time you set, it will then put the computer into hibernation.


Hibernation -

Hibernation is a power-saving state that saves your open documents and programs to the hard drive and then turns off your computer.

I feel extremely dumb. It's even easier than that. Like vista was a 5step process. Windows 7 makes it stupid Proof.


Step 1: Control panel

Yeah, depends on how you're displaying your Control Panel icons. I use small icons View instead of Category View, and you could just go Control Panel - Power Options and it's at the top left there - Require a password on Wakeup. Just a matter of how you get to it.

I can even just type pas into the start menu search and it will be there near the top.
