After updating no text!

Hey there,
I just updated my computer as usual, let it do its thing then all of a sudden I turned it on today to see that it didnt say welcome on the boot screen, and then my desktop had no text on it, the bar on the bottom had none, the start menu itself wouldn't even open.
The only things i can get to work are programs i had on my desktop, and whenever i try and press Windows-R for example to run something, it doesn't show up the window only a blank box on the start bar with the run logo but no text.

Suggestions guys? don't want to have to restore PC I would loose alot of important Photos.

Possibly due to malware or a virus.
First boot into safe mode with networking, tutorial here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

Then try to run the sfc scannow command if possible:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
Follow option 2, and if possible try to upload the log file as per option 3.
