Solved After waking up from sleep, one of my fans is running at maximum speed

I've been using Windows Vista for many years, and I've finally done some more depth research into CPUs and upgraded. With the upgrade (as the new core is 64 bit whereas the old one wasn't) I decided to upgrade my OS to Windows 7 Professional.
Mostly it's great, but I've noticed that after the computer is woken from being asleep that one of the fans is running at it's maximum speed until the computer is restarted. This is irritating for two reasons as I don't want to wear my fans out and because it is very noisy.

I do use speedfan, but generally have it set to run off the automatic fan speed. Usually the fan runs at around 1560 RPM depending on what I'm doing, but when this error is happening Speedfan is registering it at over 4000 RPM and this continues until a restart.

For now, I have disabled the sleep function to avoid this, but it would be great to know why this was happening and how I could avoid it.

Thank you!

Hello and welcome abba mate somewhat simplistic but run these but simple stuff first eh?
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs

if no fix then these

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
Malwarebytes | Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium
AdwCleaner Download
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If you are running Kaspersky as the main AV then it might need disabling it when trying ADW because it does not like it at times)

Plus uninstall the Speedfan see what happens and reinstall it might just be a slight corruption in the software.

Thanks for your help, although none of your suggestions worked, I did find the error.

A few days later I noticed that one of my fans in speedfan was registering at 0RPM, so I checked it and it wasn't running at all (it looks like the BIOS was blocking it for some reason, as it was spinning up when I powered on but deactivating almost instantly.)
I updated my BIOS and the fan started working again and this issue hasn't reoccured since either.

I'm pretty sure that this issue was being caused by this, as when the computer wakes up from sleep, it should run all of the fans automatically but because that one wasn't being controlled properly it was just running at it's max speed.

Thank you again for your suggestions!

No probs mate those little glitches happen a bit more frequently than is realised. Just keep those links I sent as a thing to use when things seem odd or out of whack they are my first ports of call when my own stuff is going belly up and advising others.

Oh and this may interest you too it will make the machine run that little bit faster and more efficiently if you don't mind losing some of the "bling" like transparency which like other tweaks can be reversed the authour is a brilliant fellow. I use it on all my machines and it is my bible;)
