Please help.

After waking up from the Sleep mode, my computer:

1) can not enter into sleep mode again (It hangs in the process),

2) can not restart or shut down (It hangs in the process),

3) can not detect insertion of DVDs, USB flash drives and USB card readers,

4) can not, from the sound driver, "make front and rear output devices play back two different audio streams,"

5) can not do System Restore.

It all seems to happen after I connected my car camera with my computer on the USB port, and read some AVI files in the car camera's MicroSD HC card. But I'm not sure.

Nothing is wrong in the Device Manager, either before my computer enters into the Sleep mode or after it wakes up from Sleep.

Do you have a restore point and/or backup image from before the problem started that you can restore?

Did the car camera program work ok before this issue?

Some things you can try:
Disconnect the Car camera USB device.
Can you uninstall or disable the program that runs when you connect the car camera?
Re-boot after removing / disabling / uninstalling this device and program.
This sounds like a lot more than a sleep problem to me, as your thread title implies...

There is no System Image, but there is a Restore point. So I did the System Restore. It completed successfully, but does not solve my problem.

Another thing I noticed: I did the System Restore twice. At the first time, my computer had woken from a Sleep, and System Restore could not be done. It hanged in the process. I had to cold reboot the machine before I did the Systom Restore the second time.

The car camera does not come with any program. When it is connected to the computer (on the USB port), its memory card is treated as a removable disk that Windows Explorer can handle.

Hello drkh,

This sounds weird, like nothing i have ever seen or heard of before.

To be sure i understand correctly:
Everything works OK after a boot-up.
The PC sleeps OK, and wakes up OK - no errors.
The issue is some things do not work correctly after a wake-up, as you stated in the OP.
So, the Windows session does not work exactly the same after a wake-up as it did before going to sleep.
Things i would try:
Look in the Event viewer list for any errors
Run a System File Check (SFC /scannow): http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
Do a Clean Start-up (before sleeping): http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html
Test Hibernate to see if it has the same issue as Sleep
Run a memory test
Run a HD disk check
Check for malware
Update the video driver
Try using a trace: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...up-shutdown-sleep-hibernate-reboot-trace.html
Try a startup repair
I know I'm all over the map with this, but I've never seen a Sleep session restore without errors and not work exactly the same as before going to sleep...

I also would (and suggest) create a System Backup image before making changes and periodically...

hope this helps,
David

Thank you for reaching out, David.

Yes, you understand my problem perfectly.

I'll do as you suggest and report back. But not immediately. I need to arrange my schedule for it since it'll take some time. But I'll do it.

Understood, and good luck with this !

Maybe someone else will see this and have some better ideas, or has seen this issue before.

Edit: After I posted the following 'fix', suddenly the same problem occurs again. I need to do some more research.

Edit (again): Suddenly the problem disappeared automatically! What I only did is putting the computer into hibernation and then resuming from the hibernation. Which actually should be irrelevant, I think.

The culprit is AMD Catalyst display driver 11.9 !

I said in my first posting in this thread that if I restarted my computer after it had woken up from the first successful sleep, my computer would crash. The message on the blue screen used to indicate that the problem seemed to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe. That left no clues. But, recently the blue screen message changed (I don't know why). Now it said the problem seemed to be caused by atikmdag.sys , which is a part of the AMD Catalyst display driver.

So, I tred un-installing the existing Catalyst driver 11.9 (Win7 x64), which is for my Radeon HD 4290 graphics chip intergrated into AMD Northbridge 890GX chipset, and then installing the latest 13.1 version. Problem solved!
