Solved After Win7 update, laptop boots and runs then reboots in minute or so.

I have a Panasonic CF30 running Windows 7 Pro which has been working fine for years until a couple of days ago. There is also a partition on the drive with Windows XP which I have rarely used and certainly not in a long time. Windows 7 is the primary partition and normal OS. I got an indicator that there was a Windows update waiting to be installed. It was a single update. I clicked to install update and went on with other business elsewhere. At the end of the day, the laptop showed the screen indicating that windows needed to restart to complete installation of update. As I've done before, since it was end of day, I did a normal shut down of the computer to wait until next day and figured that when I turned it on the next morning that it would complete installation of the update. The next morning I turned on the computer and it went to the login screen. I don't know if it completed the update installation before going to the login screen or not as I went to another office for a while. I got extremely busy that day and didn't use the laptop so at the end of the day I did a normal shutdown without ever having logged in to the laptop. The next day, I started the computer, it went to login screen and logged in. The computer booted up, went to desktop, loaded an application which I have set to auto start, and continued to load items as indicated by the taskbar. Before the taskbar ever showed the AVG icon, which is usually the last to show up, the computer rebooted itself. Ever since then, this is the behavior it continues to exhibit. I've done some troubleshooting as follows already:

1) Booted in safe mode with and without network drivers-no problems. Can perform anything you would expect in safe mode.
2) Booted to the Windows XP partition, no issues. XP works and computer runs programs normally.
3) I've tried removing various items from startup but haven't been successful at keeping computer running more than a minute or so.

I'm about out of ideas. Anyone have a suggestion?

Since the computer runs fine in Safe Mode, then it is possible that there is a non-Microsoft service running which is causing the problems in Windows 7.

Actually I tried that after I posted here this morning with no noted difference in behavior.

Have you checked the CPU temperatures? The heatsink can be clogged with dust.

Finally got it fixed. I had to run in safe mode, uninstall the windows update that was installed on 5/2. When system rebooted all is well. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just one more little suggestion, to Old Miss' from Florida.

Since we all know, or should know by now, that any MS Upgrade/Update can turn your PC into a door-stop, it's only good business to shut OFF auto updates and only do Manual Updates after you have done a backup of your C: drive. Sometimes a System Restore can fix such a problem with an MS Update, but that won't work when the PC can't even boot up. (I've been there and done that!)

So I only allow an MS Update to take place when I know I've got a fresh Restore Point, that I can fall back on if I need it, and, a C: drive backup. It's the old story about an "Ounce of Prevention". Eh?
