Hi, I have a problem with Windows 7. I can play Age of Empires II, because the whole picture is green! The video is up to date,knows someone who is wrong?

I have green picture too. I know this error I hav it on Vista wen I make (alt\tab) i change screen mode 800*600 to 1024*768 or 1286*1024 and the green gone! Bat I play EOE2 on Windows 7 and it’s don’t work!

Try 2 reinstall.. There is a lil probability that this trouble will disappear.

Maybe you can't play AoE II on W7..maybe it's to old.

Someone told me that it's caused by the poor color-management of Aero in Windows 7. Whatever the cause is, killing explorer.exe before playing the game will fix the problem completely. The best way to do this is to start the game and ALT+TAB out of it and start your task manager to kill it. After finishing the game you can just run it again by using the run command from the task manager (and naturally you want to execute "explorer.exe".

I actually made a .BAT file that automates this process, you simply need to extract dd256_fix.bat into your game .EXE folder and then rename it to have the same name as your game .EXE (in this case empires2.exe or age2_x1.exe). Now you have to start the game by running the .BAT file, instead of the game .EXE. It also restores the folder that you ran the game from. Get it from here.

If any is still wondering about this, i made it work by opening the "change resolution" window before i launch the game.. Not change anything just open it.. Retarded but it works

Going to this thread Windows 7/Vista Color Fix and following the advice at the very bottom of the registry worked for me. Involves no programs, no closing explorer and restarting explorer. Adding this to your registry and you can play with no color issues and you can alt tab out of the game during play and back in again with no issues. At least no issues I for me so far.

AOE is a great game. I'd suggest you to reinstall it and hope it will be just fine after.
