I Have tried changing the registry msahci 'Start' setting to zero and have extensively googled looking for an answer. Most just mention editing the registry.

I set the Sata Mode to AHCI in my Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R BIOS
and I get a Bsod in windows whirly symbols startup screen

my error dump says it happened in ntkrnlmp.exe which does not help.

Can anyone help please?

thenks

Mike

Have you installed the SATA drivers for your system? Usually the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver, if there is not a proprietary driver supplied by the motherboard manufacturer.

If you have it installed then "AHCI" will show in Device Manager (after successful conversion).

Cant find any info on which driver to use and how to do it.

I tried downloading Intel SATA RAID/AHCI Driver for Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R (rev. 2.1)

but when i ran it it says 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software'

I'm very puzzled now!

thanks

Mike

AHA!
Now i think I have it working now.

I had set the BIOS 'Sata Raid/AHCI mode' to AHCI but I had also set the BIOS 'Onboard Sata/ide Control Mode' to AHCI
which seemed the right thing to do?

I don't know why I tried it but I left the 'Onboard Sata/ide Control Mode' on IDE and Windows loaded and the AHCI drivers appeared in the Device Manager.

I dont understand why this was stopping windows loading and I would love to know.
Obviously I don't understand the BIOS settings very well.

thanks
Mike

I can't think of why that would happen either.

The Onboard Sata/Ide Controller works two separate SATA ports, aside from the usual 6 Intel SATA ports that come standard with the chipset.

Is it possible that you have your hard drive is plugged into one of the secondary Gigabyte SATA ports and not in the Intel ones? If so, that would mean that Windows was installed and is still running in IDE mode, since changing the Gigabyte controller to IDE will allow Windows to boot.

I believe that installing the SATA RAID/AHCI Driver is for the Intel chipset. And since it would not install I suspect it was installed already.

Anyway, you've got something unusual going on. I have both of my SATA controllers set to AHCI mode.

Yes it is odd i admit . I have not got any drives in the two purple sockets on my mobo though.
I did originally before I started the process of updating my BIOS and my firmware for my SSD which got me started on all this. But I moved all drives onto the intel sockets when i first got problems.

thanks

Mike
