ALIENWARE M11X Share your thoughts

Hi, I'm thinking about getting an alienware m11x for school. It comes out at 1,300 dollars with intel i5, 4 gb ram, 320gb hard drive, and the necessary accesories, microsoft word, neoprene case, 1tb external (about time right?), and a new mouse.

Do you think I should buy this computer, or does anybody have any other suggestions.
I cant spend more than 1,600

But HP is much worse for reliability.

Toshiba usually has a bunch of good deals going on around this time...you might wanna look up some options from there, too.

Hmm, Im looking for a reliable and powerful computer that will last me a long time. Ive had a toshiba and it failed me
after a year of computing, and i just had a friend who had 2 HP computers, a laptop and a desktop and the desktop broke after 4 years of very mild computing, and the laptop broke after a year.
I think I will go with Dell or Alienware, both have great reliability and performance, and i can customize on the web.
Can you guys think of any other brands?

Hm, that's funny - I've owned/used no less than four Toshibas over ten years; the only problem was the power cord failed on one of them.

Alienware and ASUS tend to be good, too.

Yea, ive looked at the asus computers, the only high performace ones are 17 inch screens and really big. I need somthing more portable. Thats why I like the Alienware 11.6 inch screen and 4.4 lbs.

Alienwares are generally over-priced (niche market). I only buy Dell or HP, and have fantastic luck with both, including any support issues.

On another note, if you are attending a college, check with them first before paying for Office. Usually you can get it free or dirt cheap through your school.

So i customized an HP computer and it came out at $1,019. I would get this for sure if i wasnt concerned about hp's durability and reliabiltity.

read the first post....I also own a custom desktop... just look at my system specs...
I am also looking for the option to play games if i wanted. I need somthing I can bring from school to home easily. not lugging around a 30 lb computer.

If you have not bought a laptop yet I would go with the Alienware, if you want the option of gaming it has it and I can tell you from owning the M11x that for its size and computing power the current market has nothing to compare. I tried to do the same thing your doing and with all the options it does have and the great size its just hard to beat. I always dreamed of owning a high end gaming system and I found it in the smallest package around its great. I saved money for 2 years and when the M11x came out I had to have one and about a month ago I got and love it wouldn't trade it for any other laptop unless it doubled everything this can do at the same size.
