All browser plugins are failing

In Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Whether it's Adobe Flash, Divx, Microsoft Silverlight, whatever - any attemp to play any kind of imbedded video crashes. Even the dumb advertisements on most sites. (Not that I miss those...)

I can't say for certain, but it did seem to begin right about the time I did a Windows Update and it appears to have loaded out a Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.

I have tried removing and re-installing several times, with no change. It's starting to look like my only option left is to go back to factory install but I sure hope someone here has a better idea.

Appreciate any suggestions you have.

OK, a bit of an update: All videos are failing immediately - VLC, Windows Media Player, Divx, etc. I just came from my Linux partition and all the video there is fine so it's not hardware. It looks like this is gonna be a good one.

Before doing anything drastic, you could try doing a system restore to a date before the problem occurred:

i agree with irene a system restore back to the time before you started having issues.also before you do a restore if you choose that path, its worth having a look in event viewer to see what's been going on it may/should help,

TO OPEN EVENT VIEWER

• Open Event Viewer by clicking the Start button ,
• clicking Control Panel,
• clicking System and Maintenance,
• clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Event Viewer
• If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Note

Here's another way to open Event Viewer: Click the Start button . In the Search box, type Event Viewer, and then, in the list of results, double-click Event Viewer.
