All media players crash on my laptop

whenever I try to view an avi file, the media player crashed after about 5 minutes. This happens with all media players. Windows, DivX, VLC, everything. I get the below error in Security log in Event Viewer. PLEASE HELP!!!!

It is doing my head in and I don't know what's wrong

Description: File iaStor.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers.

Update your storage controller drivers from Intel's Web site for your chipset. What I believe is happening is there is an event occuring within the hardware that the driver does not know what to do with, thus is hangs or stops responding. After X seconds, Windows stops trying to get the driver to start up again. Since this is a non-vital component, Windows itself will not crash but the software requiring this driver's interaction to function will.

I downloaded this and ran it from the C drive but still no luck : (

Athough Johnathan Lyman is probably right, try using KMPlayer. It works for me so. Perhaps it's the software, rather than the drivers.

You've upgraded your chipset drivers and graphics drivers as well?

If it has worked in the past, try doing a system restore to a time before it worked, if possible. If not, a repair install (or in your case, recover) may be in your future.
