All my windows resize when coming out of Standby

This is a new W7 Ultimate install on a Dell 1520 laptop, activated, all my apps installed, etc. I had had enough of Vista and it's issues.

But now... whenever it comes out of Standby, all of my windows resize. The laptop's screen is 1600x1050 and the windows size down to somewhere around 1024x768. Like, if I have two Firefox windows open side by side, both windows resize vertically to (guessing) 768 tall, and the one on the right moves left and is underneath the one on the left, for a width of (guessing) 1024.

What's also odd is if I were to standby right now, wait a minute, and bring it back up, the problem doesn't appear. But if I leave it for a few hours, or overnight, it does. Windows that are maximized aren't affected.

Has anybody else seen this? It's driving me nuts.

I'm guessing that just before standby windows is dropping the screen res before powering off your display. XP used to do this on my old lappy and mess up the layout of the icons on my desktop that were either on the right or bottom of the display. Didn't do a lot of research on the matter. Found a free utility called Desktop Restore that would backup and restore my icon placement.

Actually it's happening when it comes out of standby. I see the screen appear, then go black, like a res change, then it comes back on (in the normal res) but the windows have moved around and yeah, icons move around sometimes too.

This alone is enough to make me ditch W7 because of how I normally keep my desktop organized and the apps I have open.

Cool thanks, that might help a lot. I had checked Dell's site to see if they had updated drivers, but they didn't. I'll install those tonight and see if they help.
