All win7 ver on usb flash ?

Hi

Need a 64 bit win7 Home Premium install with sp1 on a flash drive. My win7 disks (retail) are pre sp1. I borrowed a friends Win7 Ultimate disk with sp1 but when I transfer from the iso to the flash drive using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (having used ei.cfg Removal Utility to make all version available) all I get is the Ultimate SP1 version.

If I do the same thing to a dvd it works fine and the install gives me a choice of
Basic / Premium / Pro /Ultimate.

Why does it work on a dvd but not the flash drive ?

i can use the dvd but it would be good to have it all on a flsh drive !

Use your media, slipstream it, then when it's done, just follow this tutorial to make your USB flash drive bootable and then copy the files over.

Hi, I have tried to slipstream but my system is 32 bit and I am moving to 64 bit on new build. RT 7 Lite will not let me make a 64 bit disk on a 32 bit system.

"You can only create a 64-bit slipstreamed Windows 7 SP1 DVD or ISO if your current Windows 7 installation is also 64-bit."

That's why I tried the other method.

Go to the sources folder on the thumb drive and look for an ei.cfg file. If its there thats why you are still locked into the one edition. If it is there, just delete it or rename it and you should end up with the universal installer you wanted.

Manually delete ei.cfg from usb, it should work.

Hi Guys.

Many thanks for the help.

I used the "ei.cfg Removal Utility" but for some reason it did not work when I downloaded to my flash drive. The file was still there so just renamed it to "oldnotused_ei.cfg" and all is well. Such a simple thing !

It now works and I can install from my flash drive !

One problem: the result of this is not a version that can be used to repair a Win7 SP1 installation.

You can image your system with macrium reflect, or acronis or clonezilla or whatever you want, so in case of emergency, dont even try to repair, just reload the image and you have a working system in a couple of minutes, or...browse the mdl forums for a retail iso of windows with SP1.

Is the real problem that you desire to repair your Win 7 SP1 installation?

Incidentally, then only imaging program I will use on Win 7 systems is Win 7's Backup And Restore. I've used numerous times with zero problems. There are other imaging programs out there, but I stick with MS whenever possible.
