Hi - I dual boot into Win-7 to run my Ethernet CNC Mill. Sometimes I need to use the same Ethernet Port to access the internet but this requires resetting my Ethernet Adapter Settings.

Network and Internet ->
Network Connections ->
CncMill
Unidentified Network
Intel(R) Ethernet Connection 1217-LM

Is there a way to have two versions of these Ethernet settings (Mill & Internet) so I can enable/disable them as required? Thanks - Alex.

Welcome to the forum can you open a cmd prompt type ipconfig/all

Do it on both settings and post results so we can see what the situation is

Hi samuria, I can reset the adapter settings when I switch between the devices. What I want is a way to save the settings for each device so I don't have to go through the whole process each time. e.g. there is no option to copy, paste and rename the ethernet adapter icon so I can enable/disable different adapter settings as required. What do you think?

How do you connect to the mill ie is it a cable plugged directly into it can its ip not be changed? If you plug it into the router can and the pc plugged in as well you still use it ? if so setting Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254 may work for both

Yes samuria, I plug directly between the mill motion controller and the pc ethernet socket. I want this direct connection to avoid network errors.

I think the motion controller ip address can be changed - could this allow me to save/select different network config setups?

If you could set the IP in the same range as the router you wouldn't need to change anything the other way is change IP of router so it matches

What I would do in this situation is add another ethernet card (either additional or by replacing an existing card with a dual port one ), you then set up your internet to use one port, (and IP subnet), and the Mill Controller on the other :)

Another option would be a wireless USB adaptor if you have access to a wireless signal (use the Wireless for the internet as this should be less critical on connections)

Thanks for the suggestions.
Barman58, as you know network settings in GNU-Linux are just text files that are easily automatically modified. I was hoping to find a similar soloution in Win 7 (I'm a Windows novice).
