Alureon and my broken laptop

Copying from my BSOD thread (what would I give to have 'only' that issue now). In trying to fix that probem, laptop is now utterly rooted, no boot, no Windows repair. I do not have another machine available to me (and am not a tech, very clearly).

I tried to follow BSOD advice given, removed AVG and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. It found Alureon and instructed me to run Defender Offline to remove - which it did, apparently with success. The issue was after that - the machine cannot boot. I have run Windows Repair, no dice, machine now takes me to HP Recovery - I am just trying to find the best way to restore things whilst minimizing lost data. I have a full recent backup on external drive (god I'm hoping it did so correctly, certainly spent hours copying files), which I am hoping I can reinstall.

Scared to make the wrong choice from the HP Recovery options. Factory reset, restore point, or clean image. Very unsure what to do. Many thanks in advance

No, can't do so. Blue screen flashes immed, and takes me B/w Windiws Error Recivery screen. Either launch startup repairv(again, it's now been 3 times and I know other dude said don't do that it's causing damage), or start normally ... which loops back here

We need some software to get rid of this virus and it is hard to get rid of it without a second PC and the removal programs. Can we get the command prompt opened ? Can you restart and if you get to the Recovery Console screen choose Command Prompt and at the command prompt window type in

Code:
taskmgr.exe

Click on the Processes Tab and let me know what is inside

OK, some good news. I tried again to get to the startup menu, and I am in.

F1 System Info
F2 system Diagnostics
F9 Boot Device Options
F10 BIOS setup
F11 System Recovery

These are good options, right :) Trying so hard to hold it together!!

Please take a minute to update the current situation...

We know what you are going through is very distressing, but, you need to stay cool (easy for me to say) and provide us with the following information:

Q 1. Do you have the Repair your computer option in the Advanced Boot Options menu?

To find out:
Restart the computer.
As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
Is the Repair your computer option listed?

If it is there, just let us know, but please do not do anything with that option.
Actually, do not run any more scans or any program. At this point it will just make things worse.

Q 2. Do you have a USB flash drive available that you can reformat?

Q 3. What computer are you using right now to post here? MAC or Windows PC?

Q 4. Was TDSSKiller rebooting the computer, and, that is as far as you got when the Startup Repair started to show up?

Q 5. Does Startup Repair report anything, and is unable to take care of it. If so, what message does it give you?

We don't want F11. That is the partition that stores your Factory Settings . Does it say HP on the screen ?

...current options as above...

So, you do have the Repair your computer option in the Advanced Boot Options menu?
Is that the case: Yes No

If you have the Repair your computer option, we need to figure out how to place a Windows file in a USB flash drive using a MAC.

What speaks against reinstalling the system from the recovery partition. Just keep tapping F11 after power-on and it gets you into the wizard. Since your files are backed up, you should be good.

If I choose Boot Options from list above (is that what you mean?) I have;

Notebook Hard Drive, or Internal Cd Rom Drive options.

Also "F10 to BIzoS Setup"

The issue with HP Restore is that I will lose Windows, no? I assume backup was simply my data files (it was a standard backup)

That is our last resort .

@ Sarahcali , the F9 key is your one time boot options key to boot from the USB flash drive or cd disc .
