AMD cards Vs nVidia cards? Got very confused by a thing

Hi.. So my psu got messed up so i have now sent it in and using a old psu without pci-e power so i had to change out my GTX 660 to my old ATI Radeon 4650
Though the gtx 660 kicks donkey in gaming the Radeon is running flash games smoother and some other stuff to
Also a bit of a OpenCL vs CUDA war
When rendering with my AMD A8 laptop with intergrated gpu the rendering times in Sony Vegas 12 accually was shorter than the video with OpenCL gpu acceleration on But with
Cuda acceleration on with my GTX 660 with around 950 CUDA cores the rendering times are about dubble the video lenght

This is soo confusing??
Did i do a very stupid move buying a 660 instead of a R9 270x card for Gaming and video editing and rendering

You didn't mess up on anything but to be honest AMD has gotten better with encoding speeds over the years

I just recently bought a new GTX 780 ti I have not done any video yet i have been doing benchmarks but i will find out soon enough

the time it normally took me to render and burn with 2x7970's were about 20 minutes depending on what it was doing some took longer then others to about 30 minutes but actually cut down to 25 minutes

Direct Compute and Open GL are on fire right now with AMD cards they use it very well and Bitcoin Miners seem to love how much over Nvidia they run

For me it's doesn't mater as long as it suits my needs but other people may differ with the way AMD has been changing GPU Architecture people have been going red and also the prices have gone up so if you are looking to change now you need to look for a card worth the coin because they gone up 20% matching Nvidia prices

Ok.... Still weird how my ancient 4650 can be faster in flash games than my gtx 660

this last week I had this dilema. ive always bee team red! but with the latest bitcoin mining craze its pushed AMD cards through the roof.. a £300 card last month is now nearer £400. soo for the first time since the 8800GTX days I have gone back to Nvidia =0 got myself a gtx770 today.. im about to start comparing it to my aging 6950 2gb.

They fall short when it comes to computational applications compared to the current AMD cards. Of you only care about gaming then the Nivida cards are strong contenders.

Now if you really need computational power...you want Nivida Titan, full double precision workstation class card, with game optimizations added on.

There is more then just being upclocked it has a different Bios and most likely different power phases

Most likely you would need to mod the Bios in order to fully get a R9 270X

Actually a twin frozr will be a lot more quieter then the GTX 660

They are good cards and can clock pretty well

So the ASUS gtx 660 is louder than the twinfrozr 270x?
Becouse i dont hear my asus oc gtx 660 when playing Assasins creed iv at almost ultra

Fans only hearable when going over 50% and the fans is at 20-30% and the temp is around 60c when its completely maxed out

Yeah but read up on the frozr version they are lower temps at idle and load and fans at auto

my last Twin frozr hovered at 30 c idle 55full load Overclocked and never heard it ever but did hear case fans speeding up when i was under load lol

I heard what he said about the fan speed and temps
He said that the maximum temp was 61c when overclocked and the fans only hit 27%

My card is factory overclocked and almost never hit 60c and never gets over and maximum fanspeed is around 27% just like on the msi
Also i saw on his video that the card memory speed was 1200Mhz. Mine's at 6080 and can be overclocked to 6680 if i so desire.

Also the asus has 3 heatpipes where 2 is just very very long ones. goes from one side to the other and one that just is for one side while the msi only had 2

I checked out a pair of benchmarks on battlefield 4 and the card ideled around 40-50fps at ultra without overclock.
Remember mine is factory overclocked so it performs a bit better and i can overclock it even further.
Ehh i dont know. The prizes of the amd cards are flying away becouse of mining so i think i will be happy with my 660. If i ever run low in fps i can always plonk anotherone in becouse my computer is supporting it. becouse i was planning for it

Yeah that mining crap is garbage and just made it that much harder to get quality parts for a decent price
